MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th April, 2019) The United States is doing everything possible to hinder the operation of the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), established by the European Union to continue trade with Iran amid the US sanctions, Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov told reporters Wednesday.
"The United States is doing everything possible to prevent this process. It is clear that these attempts are doomed to failure when it comes to Russia, but we can see what they do toward the European trio [Germany, France, the United Kingdom]," the diplomat said.
Moscow has reservations about the activities London, Paris and Berlin undertake to operate the SPV and believes that the mechanism has not yet proved effective, Chizhov added.
Iran plans to set up its own version of the vehicle, but has so far not taken any significant steps in this direction, the diplomat said.
