MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th April, 2019) Myanmar is interested in new purchases of defense equipment from Russia, including armored vehicles and firearms, Myanmar Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing told Sputnik.
"Of course, we are interested in all types of military equipment, including artillery, tanks and firearms. If the equipment meets our requirements, then, of course, we will consider buying more military equipment from Russia too," the official said.
According to Min, the country has certain issues in conducting transactions with Russia due to US sanctions on buying defense equipment.
"We have to defend our state... We do not pose a threat to other countries with our weapons and military equipment. We will never attack or interfere in the policies of other countries. We buy weapons for self-defense only. Therefore, we are not afraid of such sanctions," Min added.
