Waters Around Russky Island To Be Closed Due To Planned Putin-Kim Meeting - Document

VLADIVOSTOK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd April, 2019) The waters of the bays of the Russky Island in Russia's Far East will be closed for small-size vessels from April 24 to April 26 in anticipation of the planned meeting of President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to a relevant document seen by Sputnik.

The letter signed by the deputy chief of the regional unit of Russia's Emergencies Ministry, Leonid Makovetsky, was published by a local yacht club. According to the document, the bay of Ajax, Paris and Novik of Russky Island will be closed for small vessels from 8 a.m. on April 24 (22:00 GMT on April 23) to 8 a.m. April 26 local time.

A representative of the state inspection for small-sized vessels confirmed the information to Sputnik: "Yes, from April 24 to April 26, these areas will be closed for small vessels," he said.

Ajax Bay is traditionally closed for small vessels in the run-up to important international events, such as the Eastern Economic Forum.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that the meeting between Putin and Kim would take place before the end of April. Meanwhile, South Korean media have suggested that the talks are most likely to be held in Vladivostok. An employee of a Vladivostok train station told Sputnik last week that North Korean official Kim Chang Son, who was seen in Vladivostok last Wednesday, had been examining security measures at the station.
