Sri Lankan authorities did not ask for Russia's assistance after the deadly bombings that killed almost 300 people, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd April, 2019) Sri Lankan authorities did not ask for Russia's assistance after the deadly bombings that killed almost 300 people, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

On Easter Sunday, Sri Lanka was hit by a series of coordinated bombings in churches and hotels, which killed at least 290 people and left another 500 injured. On Monday, local media reported of another explosion, which took place near St. Anthony's church in the capital city of Colombo.

"Sri Lankan authorities did not ask for help. You know that yesterday [Russian President Vladimir] Putin expressed his deepest condolences in connection with this hideous terrorist act, we strongly condemn it," Peskov told reporters.

Sri Lanka launched a massive security operation in the wake of the bombings. As of Monday, at least 24 people were detained in connection with the attacks. The authorities introduced and re-introduced curfew and deployed extra 1,000 troops in Colombo.
