UN Mission Condemns Deadly Explosions In Sri Lanka - Statement

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st April, 2019) The UN mission in Sri Lanka has strongly condemned a series of deadly blasts that hit churches and hotels across the country on Easter Sunday.

Eight blasts took place in Sri Lanka on Sunday, hitting several churches with Catholic worshipers and hotels in the country's capital of Colombo and other cities. According to media reports, the attacks claimed lives of some 200 people.

"The @UN in #lka strongly condemns the horrific attacks carried out against civilians and worshipers in #SriLanka. Heartfelt condolences to the families, victims & the Gov & people of #lka. The UN in #lka urges all citizens, all leaders to stand united during these difficult times," the statement published on Twitter said.

Local media reported citing sources that some blasts could have been carried out by suicide bombers.
