India Suspends Trade With Pakistan Across Line of Control - Home Affairs Ministry

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday said it was suspending trade with Pakistan across the line of control in Kashmir as it believed that some illegal weapons and drugs had been taken across the border

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th April, 2019) The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday said it was suspending trade with Pakistan across the line of control in Kashmir as it believed that some illegal weapons and drugs had been taken across the border.

"MHA has issued order to suspend the LoC trade in Jammu & Kashmir with effect from. 19-04-2019. This action has been taken as the Government of India has been receiving reports that the Cross LoC trade routes are being misused by the Pakistan based elements for funneling illegal weapons, narcotics and fake Currency etc," the ministry said in a press release.

The trade across the line of control is carried out via two special centers four days a week. It is based on barter, and no duties are applied.

The Line of Control separates Indian-controlled part of the Kashmir region from the Pakistani-governed one. The two countries have been involved in a territorial dispute over the region for decades.
