UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th April, 2019) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that he was terrified by the fire that engulfed the landmark Notre Dame cathedral in Paris on Monday.
"Horrified by the pictures coming from Paris with the fire engulfing Notre Dame Cathedral - a unique example of world heritage that has stood tall since the 14th century," Guterres wrote on Twitter.
The UN secretary-general added that his thoughts were with the French people and the government.
The blaze on the famed site started at about 6:50 p.m. local time (16:50 GMT). Photos on social media show massive plumes of brown smoke and thick ash filling the air above the medieval Catholic cathedral, a popular tourist spot. A clock on the facade of the cathedral and the building's roof have collapsed, a Sputnik correspondent reported.�
