WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th April, 2019) Airborne water tankers might have been an option to save the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris from total destruction, US President Donald Trump suggested in a message as the blaze raged on Monday.
"So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris," Trump said via Twitter. "Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!"
Trump was responding to initial footage showed a massive plume of smoke rising from the cathedral's roof, with bright orange flames seen rising from the roof and from inside windows looking out onto River Seine.
The fire reportedly began at around 6:50 p.m. local time, according to the Paris fire department.
The fire may have been started accidentally during renovation works underway inside the cathedral, according to media reports. Police are currently treating the fire as an accident.
