Russia, Ethiopia Sign Road Map on Joint Nuclear Projects - Rosatom

Russia and Ethiopia signed on Monday a three-year road map on cooperation in constructing a center for nuclear science and technology (CNST) and a nuclear power plant (NPP) in the African state, Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom said

SOCHI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th April, 2019) Russia and Ethiopia signed on Monday a three-year road map on cooperation in constructing a center for nuclear science and technology (CNST) and a nuclear power plant (NPP) in the African state, Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom said.

The document was signed within the framework of the 11th Atomexpo international forum, which is currently ongoing in Russia. The Russian side was represented by Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev, while Getahun Mecuria, the Ethiopian minister of innovation and technology, signed the document on behalf of Ethiopia.

"The roadmap determines specific steps in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy. The parties plan have identified joint actions within the framework of NPP construction and CNST construction projects. Thus, a foundation is laid for training personnel and raising public awareness about atomic energy," Rosatom said in its statement.

On June 19, 2017, Rosatom and the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The memorandum provided a legal basis for bilateral cooperation in such areas as the development of nuclear infrastructure and raising public awareness of nuclear technologies and it use.

The Atomexpo 2019 annual forum, organized by Rosatom, opened in the Russian resort city of Sochi earlier on Monday and will last through Tuesday. The 11th edition of the conference has brought together over 1,500 foreign participants from 74 countries.
