South Korean President Says Preparing for 4th Summit With North Korean Leader

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Monday that he started preparing for the fourth round of talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un

TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th April, 2019) South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Monday that he started preparing for the fourth round of talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"Now is the time to make preparations and push for South-North summit talks in earnest. As soon as North Korea is ready, I hope the two Koreas will have another summit without being restrained by the venue and format," the president told his aides at a meeting, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency.

According to media reports, Kim Jong Un announced his readiness for the third round of talks with US President Donald Trump and intention to improve relations with South Korea at the recent session of the North Korean Supreme People's Assembly.

Kim's statements show his willingness to continue the dialogue, Moon noted.

Moon also commented on his recent visit to the United States last week, where he met with his US counterpart Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton.

During the talks, both Washington and Seoul reaffirmed the principles of denuclearization, a peaceful and lasting settlement on the Korean Peninsula through diplomacy, and decided to make joint efforts for the early resumption of the North Korean-US dialogue, he said.

According to Moon, Trump agreed on the need for inter-Korean talks and the third round of his talks with Kim.

At the same time, speaking at a session of parliament in Pyongyang, Kim reproached the United States that they demanded unilateral actions from North Korea, without offering any counter-moves. With such an approach, even hundred or thousand meetings will make no difference, Kim stressed. At the same time, the North Korean leader confirmed Trump's statement that the leaders of the two countries had good personal relations.

Their first meeting of Trump and Kim took place last year in Singapore. Kim also met three times with Moon, twice in the demilitarized zone between the two Korean states and once in Pyongyang. Then, Kim Jong Un promised that he would pay a return visit to Seoul.
