Ex-Obama Counsel Pleads Not Guilty For Lying About Ukraine Activities - Court Filing

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th April, 2019) Former Obama administration White House Counsel Gregory Craig pleaded not guilty to charges that he lied about his activities on behalf of Ukraine and did not register as a foreign agent, a court filing revealed on Friday.

"Not Guilty Plea entered by Gregory Craig as to all counts. Defendant placed on personal recognizance," the filing said.

On Thursday, the jury at the US District Court for the District of Columbia indicted Craig, a 74-year-old resident of Washington, DC, on charges of "willfully falsifying and concealing material facts from" and "making false and misleading statements to" the Justice Department's Foreign Agents Registration Act Unit.

The next status hearing in the case has been set for April 15, the filing said.

The charges originated with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into allegations of Trump-Russia collusion and Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

According to the letter sent to Congress by US Attorney General William Barr on the final report pertaining to the investigation, Mueller concluded there was no Trump-Russia collusion. However, Mueller did say Russia tried to influence the election.

Russia has repeatedly denied interfering in the US political system, saying the allegations were made up to excuse the electoral loss of Trump's opponent and deflect public attention from actual instances of election fraud and corruption.
