KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th April, 2019) Ukrainian presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelenskiy held a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace on Friday, Zelenskiy's team said in a statement."Zelenskiy met with French President Emmanuel Macron. The leader of the French Republic received the Ukrainian presidential candidate at his residence � the Elysee Palace in Paris," the statement read.
The meeting took place at 3 p.m. local time on Friday (13:00 GMT), three hours before Macron's meeting with incumbent Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
The meeting came nine days before the second round of Ukrainian presidential election.
Earlier in the day, Zelenskiy's team said via its Telegram channel that France expressed its interest in the phenomenon of Zelenskiy's success in the first round of the Ukrainian presidential elections.
The first round of the Ukrainian presidential election was held on March 31 and resulted in none of the candidates gaining the absolute majority needed to win the race. Zelenskiy led with 30.24 percent of the vote, while Poroshenko came second with 15.95 percent and will, therefore, confront Zelenskiy in the runoff.
