UN Refugee Agency Urges Release of 1,500 Refugees, Migrants Kept in Hostile Areas in Libya

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is urging the Libyan government to immediately release 1,500 refugees and migrants from hostile areas in Libya's capital of Tripoli due to the worsening security situation, the UNHCR said in a press release on Friday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th April, 2019) The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is urging the Libyan government to immediately release 1,500 refugees and migrants from hostile areas in Libya's capital of Tripoli due to the worsening security situation, the UNHCR said in a press release on Friday.

"In light of the dramatically worsening security situation in Libya's capital, Tripoli, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is urgently calling for the immediate release of refugees and migrants from places of detention," the release said. "Many of these facilities are in areas where there is ongoing fighting."

The UNHCR said more than 1,500 refugees and migrants are trapped in detention facilities where hostilities are ongoing.
