MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th April, 2019) The Russian and Japanese ministers of defense and foreign affairs, the so-called 2+2 format, will meet in May, the chairman of the Japanese New Party Daichi, Muneo Suzuki, said Thursday.

"Next month, in May, there will be 2+2 meetings in Tokyo," the politician said at talks with the head of the Russian upper house's Committee on Foreign Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev.

Suzuki added that Tokyo also awaited the visit of Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party Andrei Turchak on May 15-16.

The previous round of the Russian-Japanese 2+2 consultations was held in Moscow on July 31. It took place against the backdrop of Moscow's growing concerns over Tokyo's plans to deploy the US Aegis Ashore ballistic missile defense systems to the country.
