New Kazakh President Says Has No Plans To Change Government Composition

ALMATY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd April, 2019) New Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said that there is no need to change the composition of the government as it has been formed recently.

Tokayev, who served as the chairman of the upper house of the Kazakh parliament, took the oath of office on March 20 after the unexpected resignation of Nursultan Nazarbayev, who has been leading the country since 1990.

"If a new president assumes office, the government does not necessarily have to be changed. This government has been formed recently and a huge block of issues needs to be resolved, while the ministers have received specific instructions. There are also seasonal issues such as flood, sowing campaign. Therefore, I see no need to change the government now," Tokayev said in his first interview with Kazakh media after assuming office.

At the same time, Tokayev noted that the work of individual members of the cabinet would be evaluated in accordance with the results of work.

In late February, Nazarbayev signed a decree appointing Askar Mamin as the country's prime minister, and approved the composition of the new cabinet, which was renewed nearly by half.
