MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st April, 2019) The combined net worth of Russia's richest people increased by $20.54 billion in the first quarter of 2019, data taken from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI) released on Monday showed.

The index, updated on a daily basis at the close of the New York Stock Exchange, is calculated based on the stock value of companies which the billionaires have shares in. It tracks the net worth of 500 wealthiest people in the world, 23 of which are currently Russian citizens.

The wealthiest Russian at the moment and coming in at number 39 of the world's richest people is Vladimir Potanin, head of the Norilsk Nickel concern, the world's largest producer of refined nickel. His net value grew by $1.36 billion in the first quarter of 2019 to $21 billion.

Following Potanin at position 40 is Vladimir Lisin, chairman of Russia's largest steelmaker, Novolipetsk Steel, with $20.3 billion, which increased by $2.44 billion.

Not far behind are Leonid Mikhelson at number 42 with $20 billion and Vagit Alekperov at number 44 with $19.7 billion. Both men own shares in Russia's leading energy companies.

Among other Russian billionaires to have made the list are Alisher Usmanov (number 71 with $16.1 billion), Roman Abramovich (number 77 with $15.5 billion) and Gennady Timchenko (number 85 with $14.4 billion).
