MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th March, 2019) Russia's Vega concern and Beriev Aircraft Company delivered on Thursday the sixth modernized A-50U airborne early warning and control aircraft (AEW&C) to the country's Aerospace Forces, while the seventh plane will be delivered in 2021, the Rostec state corporation told Sputnik.

"At present, our companies are working to modernize the seventh A-50 aircraft to the A-50U level. It will be handed over to the customer in 2021," the Rostec press service cited Vyacheslav Mikheyev, Director General of the Vega Concern, as saying.

The A-50U modernization program was unveiled in 1995 and the first upgraded plane entered the test phase in 2008. The upgrade works of the aircraft are being carried out at Beriev facility in Taganrog in the Rostov Region.

The upgrade of on-board radar and control systems significantly reduced the overall weight of the aircraft, enabling the plane to carry additional fuel for increased range.
