President Masood urges UN, world community to help resolve Kashmir issue

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Masood has warned that nuclear war between India and Pakistan over Kashmir conflict could, directly and indirectly, affect over two billion people

MUZAFFARABAD (Pakistan Point News - 28th March, 2019) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Masood has warned that nuclear war between India and Pakistan over Kashmir conflict could, directly and indirectly, affect over two billion people.

“Cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan is temporary and it can flare-up again anytime unless the root cause of the tension – Kashmir conflict – is addressed,” President Masood told an Australian delegation here on Wednesday. The delegation headed by former Austrian Defence Minister, Dr Werner Fasslabend and comprising Brigadier General Dr Walter Feichtinger, Director of the Institute for Peace Support and Conflict Management, Peter Haider, President of the Universal Peace Federation and Mr Afsar Rathore called on him at President House. AJK President called upon United Nations, European Union and the international community to play their role for the peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue in order to avert possible disastrous war between the two countries and to ensure peace and stability in the region. The President stressed that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be placed high on the agenda of the world community and resolution of this dispute should be a priority for all. He said that the Pulwama incident cannot overshadow the bigger reality i.e. the unresolved Kashmir issue. President Masood said that Pulwama and similar incidents were the result of the illegal occupation of Kashmir and inhumane treatment of the Kashmiri people by Indian occupation forces. “When India pushes the oppressed people to the wall, they will react, one way or the other”. The President said. He condemned the prevalent human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir and recognized that Indian atrocities against helpless Kashmiris are finally being acknowledged by the international community. Terming the UN Human Rights Commission’s report on Kashmir as a strong indictment against India, Sardar Masood Khan said that the report for the first time drew the attention of the world to the structures of impunity in Occupied Kashmir that operate under the draconian laws. He said, “A similar report prepared by the UK Parliament's All-Party Parliamentary Kashmir Group (APPKG) which come on the heels of the UN OHCHR, also recognised the massive human rights violations and atrocities committed by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir", He also expressed his gratitude to the members of European Parliament (MEPs) for highlighting the flagrant violations of human rights in Kashmir and putting their weight behind the recommendations of the United Nations report on the state of human rights in occupied Kashmir during recent hearing organized at the European Parliament in February 2019. Speaking on the occasion, the head of the Austrian delegation said that the purpose of their visit to AJK is to assess the general situation with special focus on recent escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan. They expressed their happiness in knowing that tensions between the two countries have gone down and expressed their hope that both India and Pakistan will be able to resolve their differences through peaceful means in the larger interest of the peace and security in the region.
