EU for resolution of Kashmir issue by involving the Kashmiris

European Union (EU) called for resolution of issue of Kashmir between India and Pakistan by involving the people of Jammu and Kashmir

BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / NNI - 27th March, 2019) European Union (EU) called for resolution of issue of Kashmir between India and Pakistan by involving the people of Jammu and Kashmir.This was stated by head of Asia and Pacific of European External Action Service (EEAS) Ms Carline Vinot, who responded to a letter concerning the situation of South Asia dispatched by Chairman Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) Mr Ali Raza Syed to High Representative of EU for foreign affairs Ms Federica Mogherini.

In her written response, on behalf of the high presentative, the head of Asia and Pacific division of EEAS said, "The EU will continue to encourage India and Pakistan to find a lasting resolution to the situation in Kashmir by involving as for as possible the Kashmiri people."Reacting to the question of human rights violations in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK), the EU's official said, "Any allegation of human rights abuses should be investigated thoroughly, promptly and transparently in the line with international human rights obligations.

"It is important to mention that in his letter on February 27, 2019, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Mr Ali Raza Syed called upon high representative of EU for a serious notice of severe situation in South Asia, specially in the context of recent Indian aggression on Pakistan and line of control of Kashmir.In her communique addressing Chairman KC-EU, the EU's official further described, "The EU fully shares your concerns about he escalations of the violence and continued tension in the region.

"The official also quoted a recent statement of the high representative in which she underlined that military escalation between India and Pakistan, following the Pulwama's attack of 14th February, has the potential to lead to serious and dangerous consequences for both countries as well as the wider region."She said, EU has actively engaged with both sides over the past weeks, highlighting the importance to de-escalate the situation and the resumption of dialogue, both at diplomatic and political levels, is now vital.

Chairman Kashmir Council EU also received a similar letter from President of the European Council Ms Donald Tusk stressing for de-escalation of tension in the region of South Asia.In his recent letter to high ranking EU's officials, expressing grave concerns on the situation in South Asia, Mr Ali Raza Syed asked for a EU role for reduction of tension between India and Pakistan and as well as a role of this influential European organization for a just and peaceful resolution of Kashmir's dispute.It is at the time, when in her visit to the region last week, the High Representative of EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Ms Federica Mogherini met high level Pakistani officials.
