Abhinandan resumes his duty in Sri Nagar

Abhinandan reportedly chose to go back to his squadron in Srinagar during his four-week sick leave, instead of spending time with his family in Chennai.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 27th March, 2019) Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman has returned to his squadron while on a four-week sick leave, Indian media reported.

Abhinandan reportedly chose to go back to his squadron in Srinagar during his four-week sick leave, instead of spending time with his family in Chennai.

The IAF pilot was advised to go on sick leave for at least three weeks before resuming duty.

As per standard procedure, the pilot had undergone a series of medical tests as part of the "cooling down" process and had also completed two weeks of debriefing with IAF and other security officials.

During his sick leave, the officer had the option of going to his family home in Chennai where his parents live but he decided to go back to Srinagar where his squadron is deployed for operations, India media reported.

"At the moment, the officer has decided to stay with his men and machines in Srinagar and would be required to come back from New Delhi for a review by medical board which will decide on his fitness for flying fighter planes," it added.

Wing Commander Abhinandan was arrested by Pakistani forces on February 27 when his aircraft was shot down by Pakistan Air Force after violation of Pakistan air-space.

Pakistan released Indian fighter pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan and handed him over to Indian authorities at Wagah Border on March 1.

His release was announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan as a peace gesture during a speech in Joint Session of the Parliament.
