India Expects High-Level Participation at Moscow Conference on Int'l Security - Ambassador

India expects that there will be a high-level participation at the upcoming Moscow Conference on International Security, Indian Ambassador to Moscow Bala Venkatesh Varma told Sputnik on Monday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th March, 2019) India expects that there will be a high-level participation at the upcoming Moscow Conference on International Security, Indian Ambassador to Moscow Bala Venkatesh Varma told Sputnik on Monday.

The Indian ambassador described the conference that will be taking place in the Russian capital in April as a very important one and noted that India was very grateful that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had extended an invitation to his Indian counterpart.

"Defense sector cooperation is one of the pillars of cooperation between India and Russia. However, the dates of the conference coincide with the election Calendar in India which extends from the middle of April to the middle of May. Unfortunately we have still not received a confirmation. Many of our ministers are involved in electioneering, not only in their own Constituencies but all over India. So we are waiting with anticipation, with anxious anticipation, a high-level participation. So I am not in a position to confirm who will be attending. But I am sure a high-level participation will be ensured at the defense conference," Varma said.

The VIIIth Moscow Conference on International Security will be held on April 23-25. The conference attendees will discuss space militarization, cyberthreats, the Arctic issues, situation in Libya, European migrant crisis, terrorist threats, situation in Syria and Iraq, as well as arms control, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
