New Zealanders paid respects to those killed in the attacks on two mosques in the city of Christchurch one week after the massacre on Friday, the 1 News broadcaster reported

"New Zealand mourns with you. We are one," Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said in a national address.

Ardern's speech was followed by a Muslim call to prayer, rung across New Zealand, and two minutes of silence, according to 1 News.

The violent attack in Christchurch left 50 people killed and dozens of others injured. The attacker has been charged with murder and faces further charges.

Notably, the perpetrator is believed to have written an extremist manifesto including anti-Muslim and anti-migration statements.
