MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th March, 2019) The United States has decided to participate in a Russia's Venera-D project due to the Soviet Union's successful experience in landing on the planet and in order to save financial resources, the Russian co-chair of the joint working group on the Venera-D mission said in an interview with Sputnik.

The Venera-D project is aimed at creating a station for the exploration of the surface, atmosphere and environment of Venus.

"I believe, many aspects of the project [are of interest for the United States], including cost efficiency. The nearest to Earth, but such a difficult planet in terms of research requires simultaneous long-term remote examinations from the orbit and direct examinations on the surface by stations and atmospheric platforms. Such a challenging mission, carried out by two agencies, is more cost efficient for both of them," Lyudmila Zasova, a researcher at the Space Research Institute under the Russian academy of Sciences, said.

She added that the United States was also interested in drawing on the technical expertise of the Soviet Union, whose space platform had 10 successful landings on Venus' surface.

In 2013, the US side expressed an interest in the mission. The two sides created a joint working group, which, however, suspended its operation between 2014 and 2015 over the events in Ukraine.
