OSCE Calls on Moldova to Facilitate Journalists' Trips After 2 Greek Reporters Detained

Harlem Desir, the media freedom representative with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), called on the Moldovan authorities on Thursday to facilitate foreign journalists' travel between OSCE member states

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th March, 2019) Harlem Desir, the media freedom representative with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), called on the Moldovan authorities on Thursday to facilitate foreign journalists' travel between OSCE member states.

According to media reports, the Moldovan Border Police detained two Greek investigative journalists at the country's main airport on Wednesday. The journalists were released 30 minutes later after being questioned about the reasons for their visit to Moldova.

"Following reported refusal of entry to two Greek journalists to #Moldova on 13 March. I again call on #Moldova authorities to facilitate travel of foreign journalists from one #OSCE country to another," Desir wrote on Twitter.

The Greek journalists were investigating a trafficking pedophile network allegedly based in Moldova, which came into spotlight when Nikos Georgiadis, an aide to Greek opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, was found guilty of child abuse. Georgiadis served as EU high level policy adviser to the deputy prime minister of Moldova when he committed the crimes.
