MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th March, 2019) Greta Thunberg, the founder of the Youth Strike for Climate movement, has been nominated for the Nobel peace prize, just before a global climate strike, planned for Friday, media reported on Thursday.

On Friday, young people around the world are planning to skip school to demand action for climate change as part of the Fridays For Future movement. This movement began with Thunberg, the 16-year-old environmental activist, who in August 2018 started skipping school on Fridays to protest outside the Swedish parliament to draw attention to the climate crisis.

"Greta Thunberg has launched a mass movement which I see as a major contribution to peace. We have proposed Greta Thunberg because if we do nothing to halt climate change it will be the cause of wars, conflict and refugees," Norwegian Socialist lawmaker Freddy Andre Ovstegard said as quoted by The Guardian.

Currently, there are 301 candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2019, including 223 individuals and 78 organizations.
