India's Aviation Authority Grounds Boeing 737 MAX After Crash in Ethiopia - Ministry

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decided to ground has decided to ground Boeing 737 MAX until necessary modifications to improve the aircraft's safety are taken in the wake of the recent plane crash in Ethiopia, the Indian Ministry of Civilian Aviation said on Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th March, 2019) India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decided to ground has decided to ground Boeing 737 MAX until necessary modifications to improve the aircraft's safety are taken in the wake of the recent plane crash in Ethiopia, the Indian Ministry of Civilian Aviation said on Tuesday.

On Sunday, a Nairobi-bound Boeing 737 MAX 8, operated by Ethiopian Airlines, crashed minutes after takeoff from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. All 157 people from over 30 countries aboard the flight were killed. Aviation authorities and airlines of several countries, including the European Union, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia, have suspended operation of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 in their airspace following the incident.

"DGCA has taken the decision to ground the Boeing 737-MAX planes immediately. These planes will be grounded till appropriate modifications and safety measures are undertaken to ensure their safe operations," the ministry wrote on Twitter.

The ministry pointed out that it would continue to consultations with international regulators, airlines, and aircraft manufacturers to ensure passenger safety, which it sees its top priority.
