MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th March, 2019) Moscow hopes that all problems arising in Algeria will be resolved in a constructive and responsible manner through the national dialogue, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Tuesday.

"We consider the events taking place in Algeria as a purely internal affair of friendly country. At the same time, we hope that the problems that arise will continue to be solved in a constructive and responsible manner along the lines of a national dialogue with a clear focus on ensuring stability and favorable conditions for further progress along the path of political and socio-economic reforms in the interests of the Algerian people," Zakharova said.

On Monday, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced that he would not run in the presidential race and that the vote, initially scheduled for April 18, would be postponed. Bouteflika stressed that he would seek major changes to the country's government and that an inclusive and independent national conference would oversee reforms and the drafting of a new constitution.

Meanwhile, protesters in Algeria have expressed discontent with the fact that Bouteflika did not specify when the postponed election would take place and how long the transition period would last.
