Indian airstrike’s target still in place on satellite images: Reuters

Satellite images show a madrassa run by Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) still appears to be standing

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 6th March, 2019) The school run by Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) in Balakot still appears to be at its place on satellite images despite Indian claim of destroying it in the February 26 airstrike.

Satellite images show a religious school run by Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) in north-eastern Pakistan still appears to be standing days after India claimed warplanes destroyed it and killed a large number of fighters, British news Agency Reuters reported on Wednesday.

The report by The images produced by Planet Labs Inc, a San Francisco-based private satellite operator, show at least six buildings on the school's site on March 4 - six days after the air raids. Until now, no high-resolution satellite images were publicly available, the report further said.

“The images are virtually unchanged from an April 2018 satellite photo of the facility. There are no discernible holes in the roofs of buildings, no signs of scorching, blown-out walls, displaced trees around the school or other signs of an aerial attack,” the report said.

The images cast further doubt on statements made over the last eight days by the Indian government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the February 26 raids had hit all the intended targets at the school site in Balakat.

On February 26, Indian aircraft carried out airstrikes on what it said was a militant camp in Pakistan in retaliation for a deadly attack that killed at least 40 Indian troops in Indian-administered Kashmir on February 14.

Pakistan, which denied any involvement in the February 14 attack, retaliated with airstrikes that led to an Indian fighter jet being shot down in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The pilot, who was captured by Pakistan, was released on March 1 in a "goodwill gesture."
