Islamabad Says Barred Indian Submarine From Illegally Crossing Pakistan's Maritime Border

The Pakistan Navy detected an Indian submarine close to Pakistan's maritime border and prevented the watercraft from illegally entering the country's territorial waters, the Pakistan Defense Command said on Tuesday

NEW DELHI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th March, 2019) The Pakistan Navy detected an Indian submarine close to Pakistan's maritime border and prevented the watercraft from illegally entering the country's territorial waters, the Pakistan Defense Command said on Tuesday.

"Pakistan Navy has detected an Indian Navy submarine and successfully foiled its bid to intrude into the Pakistani waters ... Submarine returns to Indian waters after being spotted and warned by Pakistan Navy," the command tweeted.

The Pakistani military has also shared an aerial footage showing what appears to be the photonics mast of the alleged Indian submarine.

New Delhi has not commented on the reports so far.

The traditionally hostile relations between India and Pakistan, which have had four armed conflicts since 1947, dangerously escalated last week after the Indian Air Force carried out an airstrike in the Pakistani-controlled part of the disputed Kashmir region.

New Delhi said the strike targeted the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist organization in retaliation for the deadly attack on the Indian paramilitary convoy on February 14, which claimed the lives of around 40 security personnel.

Pakistan later said that its forces had downed two Indian jets over Kashmir in response and captured an Indian pilot. New Delhi, in turn, admitted to losing one jet and said that its MiG-21 Bison had shot down a Pakistani aircraft. The Indian pilot was later released by Islamabad as a "peace gesture."
