44 held in action against proscribed outfits: Shehryar Afridi

The operation against banned militant organisations will continue for another two weeks.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 5th March, 2019) At least 44 persons have been held in action against proscribed outfits.

Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi while addressing a press conference on Tuesday said that the operation against banned militant organisations will continue for another two weeks.

The state minister informed that 44 outlaws have been held so far while complete details of the operation will be released after the operation is completed in two weeks.

Mufti Abdul Rauf and Hammad Azhar are also among those arrested.

Afridi further said that the Indian dossier had no actionable evidence. It was just a dossier, not a proof, he said.

The Pakistani government has decided to launch a crackdown against banned militant organisations.

According to a report published in a local newspaper on Monday, “the action would soon be visible as things progress”.

The action against these militant outfits was also confirmed by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry while talking to a tv channel.

The minister said that the government has decided to launch strict action against all the militant outfits with political consensus under the National Action Plan.

Fawad Chaudhry, however, did not give a timeline of the crackdown, adding that the security forces will decide about this.

Earlier, the National Security Committee had in its Feb 21 meeting “decided to accelerate action against proscribed organisations” and ordered re-imposition of ban on Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and its charity wing Falah-i-Insaniat Foundation (FIF).
