Samjhota Express and Baisakhi bring hopes for Indo-Pak peace

Although Pulwama attack and aftermath incidents had created the potential risk of Indo-Pak war, but it averted due to wise approach of Islamabad

LAHORE, (Pakistan Point News - 04th March, 2019) Although Pulwama attack and aftermath incidents had created the potential risk of Indo-Pak war, but it averted due to wise approach of Islamabad. World powers’ call for restrainst and release of capatured Indian pilot played a vital role towards desicilation of tension between the two rivals. Islamabad and New Delhi, meanwhile, also agreed to resume the operation of Samjhota Train between the two countries.

And also Pakistan approved visa for 3,000 Sikh yatrees in the prevailing enviroment of tension. Analysts see these two developments as a hope to cool down the heated enviroment. Samjhota Train resumed operation on Sunday and Sikh pilgrims would come to Pakistan next month. They are coming to participate in Baisakhi despite tension between nuclear-armed neighbours. Baisakhi is a historical and religious festival in Sikhism. It is usually celebrated on 13 or 14 April every year and marks the Sikh new year.

The event commemorates the formation of Khalsa panth of warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. Pakistan is a home to hundreds of sacred sites and Gurdwaras of Sikh religion including Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of founder of Sikh religion, Guru Nanak Devji. As per the schdule, Sikhs from around the world will reach Pakistan on April 12 to participate in the festivities. Indian Sikh will arrive on special trains through Lahore’s Wahga border.

Both the countries will operate special trains to facilitate the pilgrims on religious event. Strict security arrangements would be made during the movements of pilgrims in different cities of Pakistan. Islamabad has issued directions to Pakistan’s Delhi Embassy for issuance of 10-day visa to Sikh pilgrims. Sikh will visit Gurdwaras in Punjab’s districts of Narowal, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Lahore during their 10 days stay in the country. Since Samjhota Express and Baiksakhi are considered two main developments to bridge the gulf of distruts between the two countries, it is also hoped that such event would continue to discouge the warmongers who are ready to push the region into a war.
