BERLIN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st March, 2019) Berlin will make a decision regarding the extension of its freeze on German arms exports to Saudi Arabia sometime in March, German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said on Friday.On Monday, the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), which is part of the ruling coalition, proposed to extend the embargo on arms supplies to Saudi Arabia beyond the March 9 deadline.
"The German government is currently in discussion [of the arms export halt]. Since time is an issue, a decision needs to be made sometime in March," the spokesman said at a briefing.
Further details of the discussion could not be disclosed, Seibert added.
Germany banned weapon sales to Saudi Arabia last fall following the brutal murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi at a Saudi consulate in Turkey after previously criticizing Riyadh for its role in the bloody Yemen war.
