Abhinandan’s return: India cancels parade at Wagah Border

Abhinandan was arrested by the Pakistani Army following the aerial incident over the disputed Kashmir region.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 1st March, 2019) Pakistan will hand over detained Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman to India via the Wagah Border on Friday.

Abhinandan was arrested by the Pakistani Army following the aerial incident over the disputed Kashmir region.

Instead of celebrating the return of their detained pilot and giving him a warm welcome, India has expressed its cowardice by cancelling the parade at Wagah Border.

There will be no parade on Indian side of the Wagah Border. However, routine parade will be held on the Pakistani side.

Indian officials said that the ceremony has been called off due to administrative requirements in the wake of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman's release.
The public will not be allowed in the ceremony area that is located in the Attari of Punjab along the Indo-Pak border, the BSF official said.

Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was taken into custody by the Pakistan’s armed forces on Wednesday.

Abhinandan was flying an MiG 21 Bison jet that was shot down by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) with the pilot taken into custody.

Soon after the attack, a footage of the captive was released, in which he can be heard saying, “My name is Wing Commander Abhinandan. My service number is 27981. I am a flying pilot. My religion is Hindu.”

When asked to speak more, he replied: "Sorry, Sir. That's all I'm supposed to tell you.

In another video released later, the IAF pilot expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Army for their good conduct and hospitality shown to him.

The officers of Pakistan Army have looked after me very well. They are thorough gentlemen, starting from the captain who rescued me from the mob and from these jawans, the soldiers. And thereafter the officers of the unit which I was taken to,” Abhinandan said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday announced to release the Indian pilot as a peace gesture.
