US Senators Propose Bill To Extend ISS Operations Through 2030

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th February, 2019) A proposed new piece of legislation introduced into the US Congress seeks to extend the operational life of the International Space Station (ISS) through 2030, Senator John Cornyn said in a press release.

"US Senators John Cornyn and Gary Peters today introduced the Advancing Human Spaceflight Act, which would extend the ISS through 2030," the release said on Wednesday. "The bill extends the authorization for the operation of the ISS from 2024 to 2030."

The move would assure US international partners with the potential to boost the commercial sector, the senators said.

"ISS extension means more launches to bring astronauts, experiments, and supplies to the ISS, which in turn means more business opportunities for the booming commercial space sector," the release said.

The bill also directs NASA to develop a next-generation spacesuit to enable human exploration beyond low earth orbit, and establish the goal of permanent human presence beyond Earth as national policy, the senators said.
