Ukraine Will Not Take Part in Eurovision Song Contest 2019 - National Public Broadcaster

Ukraine will not participate in the Eurovision international song contest this year, the country's National Public Broadcasting Company announced on Wednesday

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th February, 2019) Ukraine will not participate in the Eurovision international song contest this year, the country's National Public Broadcasting Company announced on Wednesday.

The event will be held in Israel in May.

"National Public Broadcasting Company pulls out of the international Eurovision Song Contest 2019 ... The Public Broadcaster could choose any performer, who is not among the national selection participants. However, the Public Broadcaster rejects this alternative, since the company respects the choice by viewers in the national selection," the company said in a statement posted on its website.

The controversy around Ukraine's representation at the contest sparked after the national broadcaster demanded that the country's contestant must not have Russian citizenship or visit Russia on concert tours.

Performers at top three spots in national selection have refused to represent Ukraine at Eurovision.
