WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th February, 2019) The United States plans to upgrade its nuclear forces and considers the move part of its defense against hypersonic weapons, US Strategic Command (STRATCOM) chief John Hyten testified in Congress on Tuesday."We do not recommend developing new nuclear power torpedoes, new nuclear power cruise missiles," Hyten said during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.
He expressed confidence that the US military could instead secure the country "through the modernization of the triad and the addition of a couple of small elements to add to the response to specific threads."
He added that the US defense against hypersonic weapons is its nuclear deterrence.
