Gazprom Neft to Study Opportunities to Expand Work at Iraqi Oil Fields -Russian Ambassador

Russian oil company Gazprom Neft plans to study opportunities for expansion of work at Iraqi oil fields, Russian Ambassador to Iraq Maksim Maksimov told Sputnik in an interview

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th February, 2019) Russian oil company Gazprom Neft plans to study opportunities for expansion of work at Iraqi oil fields, Russian Ambassador to Iraq Maksim Maksimov told Sputnik in an interview.

Major Russian companies are already engaged in Iraqi-based projects, with Gazprom Neft developing the Badra oil field in eastern Iraq, along with two other projects, and Lukoil oil and gas company extracting oil at the West Qurna-2 oil field in southern Iraq and conducting geological exploration at Block 10, also located in the southern part of the country.

"The future plans of the Russian company include exploring the possibility of its participation as an operator in the development of other hydrocarbon fields. In addition, a Russian operator is implementing a number of projects in the oil sector in the Kurdish autonomous region of Iraq," Maksimov said.

The ambassador noted that the current level of Gazprom Neft's oil production in Iraq is about 77,000 barrels per day.

Maksimov said that Gazprom Neft also helps the Iraqi government in implementation of projects for the utilization of associated petroleum gas, adding that in 2017 the plant for the processing of this gas was opened at the Badra oil field.
