US Senior Diplomat Heads To Brazil, Paraguay For Talks On Venezuela - State Department

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd February, 2019) US Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Kimberly Breier will travel to Brazil and Paraguay from February 24 through March 2 to discuss supporting democracy in Venezuela, the State Department said in a press release.

"Breier will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, and Sao Paulo to deepen US-Brazil cooperation in support of democracy in the Western Hemisphere, especially in Venezuela," the release said on Friday.

On March 1, the release added, Breier will travel to Paraguay to discuss regional security cooperation and support for democracy in Venezuela.

Tensions are escalating at the Venezuela border as the United States and its allies attempt to force humanitarian aid into the country that was requested by US-backed opposition leader Juan Guaido who has proclaimed himself interim president. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has said the aid is part of a US plot to overthrow his government. Russia, China, Mexico, among other countries support Maduro as the only legitimate president of the country.
