MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd February, 2019) Comedian Volodymyr Zelenskiy, a candidate for the Ukrainian presidency, remains ahead in the polls in the election race, followed by incumbent leader Petro Poroshenko, a poll published on Friday showed.

According to the Ukrainian Center for Social and Marketing Research SOCIS, asked who they would vote for if the election were held that day, 23.8 percent of respondents would vote for Zelenskiy, slightly up from 23 percent recorded in a previous poll released on February 13.

As many as 20.3 percent were ready to vote for Poroshenko, a 3.9 percent bump from the previous poll, and 15.9 percent for the leader of Batkivshchyna party, Yulia Tymoshenko. Her rating went up a mere 0.3 percent from February 13.

Energy Minister Yuriy Boyko, ex-defense chief Anatoliy Hrytsenko, and Oleh Lyashko of the nationalist Radical Party were projected to receive 11.5 percent, 6.6 percent and 5.5 percent of the vote, respectively, according to the new poll.

Other candidates scored less than 5 percent support among respondents.

The poll was conducted on February 8-18 in all regions of Ukraine with the exception of the territory of Donbas, which is not controlled by Kiev, among 2,000 adult respondents. The margin of error does not exceed 2.1 percent.

The presidential election in Ukraine is scheduled for March 31. The Ukrainian Election Commission has registered over 40 candidates for this year's race.
