ECHR Turns Down Kiev's Appeal on Interim Measures in Kerch Sailors Case - Russian Ministry

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) refused to satisfy the appeal of the Ukrainian authorities seeking new interim measures in the case of the Ukrainian sailors detained in the Kerch Strait, the Russian Justice Ministry said Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd February, 2019) The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) refused to satisfy the appeal of the Ukrainian authorities seeking new interim measures in the case of the Ukrainian sailors detained in the Kerch Strait, the Russian Justice Ministry said Friday.

"The European Court of Human Rights notified the Russian Justice Ministry that it had refused to satisfy the request of the Ukrainian authorities to apply new interim measures in the case of Ukrainian Navy ships detained by Russian border guards in the Kerch Strait on November 25, 2018," the ministry said.

The ministry clarified that the Ukrainian authorities were referring to the information obtained from the detainees' attorneys and relatives claiming that three sailors were in need of specialized medical care and questioning the quality of medical help provided to them in Russia. The court ruled that the response previously provided by the Russian authorities on the issue had been exhaustive and Ukraine's appeal contained no new arguments, the ministry added.
