MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd February, 2019) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will meet on Friday with visiting Cypriot top diplomat Nikos Christodoulides for talks on topics ranging from the Cyprus row to the future of Russia's EU ties.
The foreign minister of the Eastern Mediterranean island nation arrived in Moscow on Thursday. He last was in Russia in April 2018 and paid a working visit for talks with President Vladimir Putin in October 2017.
This time, the ministers will discuss a wide range of bilateral, regional and international matters and take stock of the Cyprus peace process.
The Greek Cypriot-majority island has been effectively partitioned since 1974 when Turkey sent troops to its north. Only Ankara recognizes the Turkish Cypriot state established there with its support.
The Russian foreign minister will reaffirm commitment to finding a lasting and mutually acceptable solution for both sides of the dispute within guidelines set by the United Nations.
