Rally Against Police Violence, Racial Discrimination to Take Place in Stockholm Saturday

More than 7,000 people are expected to participate in a demonstration in Stockholm on Saturday to protest police violence and racial discrimination after a video of a pregnant black woman being forcibly removed from the Stockholm metro went viral

STOCKHOLM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th February, 2019) More than 7,000 people are expected to participate in a demonstration in Stockholm on Saturday to protest police violence and racial discrimination after a video of a pregnant black woman being forcibly removed from the Stockholm metro went viral.

The demonstration's Facebook page shows some 20,000 people so far have indicated their interest in the rally.

"The aim of this demonstration is to draw attention to racial discrimination and excessive violence that we are experiencing," Kebba Njie, the head of AFRIS, a platform promoting African culture in Sweden, told the Dagens Arena newspaper.

Saturday's rally comes as a reaction to the video, which was widely shared on social media earlier this month, showing security guards dragging a heavily pregnant woman off a subway train and pinning her down on a bench, prompting accusations of racial profiling by the guards.
