MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th February, 2019) A first nuclear submarine that would carry the Russian Poseidon (NATO code name Kanyon) nuclear-powered underwater drone would be commissioned this spring, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his annual address to the Federal Assembly on Wednesday.
"The tests have been successfully passed ... [by] an underwater unmanned Poseidon vehicle, which has an unlimited range of use. In this regard, I want to make one important remark. This was not mentioned earlier, but today we can say it. The first nuclear submarine, the carrier of this unmanned complex, will be floated out already this spring. Work is proceeding as planned," Putin said.
During his annual address to the Federal Assembly last year, Putin said that Russia had developed a number of strategic weapons, including Poseidon, Avangard and Kinzhal hypersonic missile systems, and laser weapon called Peresvet.
