Vucic Says Serbia Ready To Launch Construction Of TurkStream Gas Pipeline Extension

MUNICH (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th February, 2019) Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told Sputnik on Sunday that the construction of the TurkStream gas pipeline extension in the country had not been launched yet but all necessary preparations had already been made and now everything depends on Serbia's neighbors that are involved in the project as well.

"Not yet, but we did all necessary preparations, all necessary procedures and we are 100 percent on the project and will deliver. Its not up to us, its up to some of our neighbors. When we are speaking about Serbia everything is well prepared and we are ready to go," Vucic said on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, when asked whether Serbia had started building the extension of the pipeline.

An extension of the pipeline is also set to be constructed in Bulgaria. The country's Bulgartransgaz announced in late January that the company had made the final decision on the construction of a new gas pipeline that would be running through the country from the Turkish border to Serbia.

The TurkStream pipeline will have two legs, each with the capacity to deliver 15.7 billion cubic meters (554 billion cubic feet) of gas per year. The first leg is set to bring gas across the Black Sea directly to Turkey, while the other one will run across the country to its western border, transporting natural gas to states in southern and southeastern Europe. The pipeline is expected to be launched by the end of 2019.

The Munich Security Conference started in the German city of Munich on Friday and will last through Sunday.
