India Summons Pakistani Diplomat After Deadly Kashmir Bombing

Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Keshav Gokhale on Friday summoned the top Pakistani diplomat in the country to protest a recent bombing of a paramilitary convoy in India-controlled Kashmir

NEW DELHI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th February, 2019) Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Keshav Gokhale on Friday summoned the top Pakistani diplomat in the country to protest a recent bombing of a paramilitary convoy in India-controlled Kashmir.

"A very strong demarche was made to the Pakistani High Commissioner by the Foreign Secretary earlier today," sources in the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The blast in the Pulwama district of India's Jammu and Kashmir state killed around 40 personnel on Thursday on a highway to the regional capital Srinagar. Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e Mohammed claimed the attack.

The Indian foreign office accused Pakistan of a role in the terrorist attack and demanded that it "ceases forthwith all support and financing to terror groups operating from areas under their control."

India and Pakistan both lay territorial claims to Kashmir. Jaish-e Mohammed has staged several attacks in northern India since it was founded in 1999 and is known to have close ties to the Taliban and al-Qaeda (banned in Russia).
