FEMA Administrator Long Resigns, Gaynor to Become Acting Administrator - Homeland Security

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Deputy Administrator Pete Graynor will serve as the agency's acting administrator following the departure of FEMA chief Brock Long, US Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen said in a press release.

NEW YORK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th February, 2019) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Deputy Administrator Pete Graynor will serve as the agency's acting administrator following the departure of FEMA chief Brock Long, US Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen said in a press release.

"Deputy Administrator Pete Gaynor will become Acting Administrator upon Brock's departure," Nielsen said on Wednesday.

Long announced in a statement earlier on Wednesday that he would resign because he wanted to spend more time with his family.

US President Donald Trump appointed Long as FEMA administrator in April 2017, and the US Senate confirmed the appointment in June 2017.

Months after Long assumed the post, hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, the strongest such storms recorded in the Atlantic, hit the Caribbean region and the southeastern United States in August and September 2017.

Long was criticized for the response to Hurricane Maria and was under investigation by the FEMA inspector general, who alleged that he used a government vehicle to travel back and forth between his office in Washington, DC and his home in North Carolina.
