US Does Not Anticipate China Using Military Resources in Venezuela in Near Term - Pentagon

China is not expected to use military resources in Venezuela in the short term, US Indo-Pacific Command chief Adm. Philip Davidson said in testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th February, 2019) China is not expected to use military resources in Venezuela in the short term, US Indo-Pacific Command chief Adm. Philip Davidson said in testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday.

Several US officials, including President Donald Trump, in recent weeks have threatened to use military force to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

"In the very near term, I don't think China would, no," Davidson said when asked whether he anticipates that Beijing may use any military resources in Venezuela.

Davidson said China is challenging and threatening the rules-based international order through a global rather than regional effort. China has been moving quite rapidly in the area of operations of the US Southern Command as well, Davidson added.

China has joined Russia and several other countries in reaffirming support for President Nicolas Maduro as the country's only legitimate democratically-elected head of state after US-backed opposition leader Juan Guaido proclaimed himself interim president last month. Maduro has accused Washington of organizing a coup and has cut off diplomatic ties with the United States.
