Russia Ready to Help Lift UNSC Sanctions Off Taliban - Russian Presidential Envoy

Russia is ready to help lift UN Security Council sanctions off Afghanistan's Taliban movement as the restrictive measures hinder peace process in the country, Russian presidential envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th February, 2019) Russia is ready to help lift UN Security Council sanctions off Afghanistan's Taliban movement as the restrictive measures hinder peace process in the country, Russian presidential envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said Tuesday.

"In principle, we are ready, but this is the matter of consensus. [There are] 15 members of UN Security Council, and the key ones are the five permanent [members]. If we can agree, then yes. Apparently, the time has come for it. Because we will not help the national reconciliation if we limit diplomatic activities of Taliban representatives," Kabulov, who is also the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second Asian Department, said at a press conference at Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.
