MOSCOW/PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th February, 2019) First clashes between yellow vest protesters and law enforcement officers have taken place in the French capital of Paris on Saturday, as the anti-government rallies continue for the thirteenth straight weekend, local media reported.

Several hours after the protesters started their march at 10:30 a.m. local time (09:30 GMT), first clashes between the activists and the law enforcement took place near the building of the National Assembly, France Info broadcaster specified. After the police used tear gas during the clashes, the protesters continued their march toward the Senate.

A Sputnik correspondent reported that one protester had his wrist shot off by a concussion grenade. According to RT broadcaster, the injured person was hospitalized.

While last week over 58,000 people took part in yellow vest protests across France, the number of protesters has reportedly decreased.

The wave of the so-called yellow vest rallies named after the obligatory attribute of French drivers started in France in mid-November. The protests have been marked by violence and public disorder. While the government ultimately abandoned plans to raise fuel taxes, which triggered the rallies in the first place, and introduced other measures to improve the country's socioeconomic situation, the protests have continued and morphed in wider outcry against French President Emmanuel Macron's economic policies and high living costs.
