Finnish President to Give Speech on Security in Arctic at Munich Conference - Statement

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto will deliver a speech on the security in the Arctic at the next week's Munich Security Conference, the president's office said on Friday

HELSINKI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th February, 2019) Finnish President Sauli Niinisto will deliver a speech on the security in the Arctic at the next week's Munich Security Conference, the president's office said on Friday.

"President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinisto will attend the international Munich Security Conference on 15-17 February 2019 in Germany ... President Niinisto will also deliver a keynote address in a discussion on the security of the Arctic region," the office said in a statement.

The president's office recalled that Finland's chairmanship of the Arctic Council an intergovernmental cooperation forum for Arctic States will continue until May.

According to the statement, the president is also expected to take part in a panel discussion on arms control and hold a number of bilateral meetings.

Founded in 1963, the Munich Security Conference brings together officials and decision-makers from around the world, as well as non-governmental organizations, industry, media and academic representatives to discuss conflict settlement, international cooperation and other security issues.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will also be among the conference's participants.
